Who’s speaking?
Rebecca Elwell
Beccy has over 25 years experience of working as an ANP in Lymphoedema and is a proud trustee of the BLS. She has recently joined Accelerate having previously been working in an acute NHS Trust for over 20 years.
Beccy has particular interests in Primary Lymphoedema and paediatrics. Cellulitis/Lower limb inflammation, lipoedema and lymphoedema secondary to cancer. Her breadth of managing people living with lymphoedema however extends to all types of swelling from any cause. Rebecca has managed the most complex cases and truly understands the devastating impact of living with lymphoedema.
She is a regular presenter in both national and international conferences and is on the editorial board for the Journal of Lymphoedema and the British Journal of Community Nursing’s Chronic Oedema supplement.
Melinda Whittingham
Melinda is a Lymphoedema Specialist at Accelerate, working closely with patients to find personalised ways to manage and reduce their swelling while lowering the risk of complications.
For her, the most rewarding part of the role is meeting people from all walks of life and supporting them on their journey. She wishes more people understood that lymphoedema can be managed and that it is not a normal part of ageing. Her aim is for every patient to leave feeling more knowledgeable about lymphoedema and more confident in managing their condition day‑to‑day.
Susan Whiltshire
Susan is a Lymphoedema Specialist Nurse at Accelerate CIC, where she assesses, plans, and reviews care as part of a supportive multi‑disciplinary team.
For her, the most rewarding part of my role is helping patients achieve the best possible outcomes in managing their lymphoedema. She wishes more people understood that lymphoedema requires lifelong care and monitoring, with the aim of maintaining swelling once it’s managed and reducing the risk of infection or new complications.
